Polykar Adds Third W&H Multi-layer Co-extrusion Line

New Optimex adds 7 million pounds to existing film production

MONTREAL, Canada – October 8, 2019 – Polykar, a leading Canadian manufacturer of flexible packaging including polyethylene film, certified compostable bags, garbage bags as well as food and industrial grade liners, today announced the installation of its third Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) Optimex line which began production this week.

The Optimex lends itself to a broad spectrum of 3-layer film applications, producing at high outputs while ensuring maximum quality and faster product changeovers.

Polykar’s $3 million investment in its third W&H co-extrusion line intends to support the consistent and increasing demand from customers for high quality and complex structures in the North American polyethylene film market. The additional line will also allow annual production of multilayered film to reach 22 million pounds and will result in quicker product turnaround.

Commenting at the machine start up, Amir Karim, President of Polykar said, ‘’We are very excited to see our third Optimex line installed, not only for the much-needed increase in production, but also for the addition of half a dozen new technical positions in our co-extrusion department which will help us ramp up our share of the convertor film market.’’

Polykar’s first Optimex machine was installed in 2014, and was the 100th such line sold worldwide by W&H. “Looking back, I remember convincing Polykar that the Optimex would be a consistent and reliable machine that would allow them to produce high-quality co-ex films. Now, three lines in, we are trusted partners and friends. For us at W&H, it’s very satisfying to work with another family-owned company that puts as much value on the quality of machinery as we do,” said Andrew Wheeler, President of W&H in North America.

Over the years, Polykar has recognized the outstanding commitment of W&H to client service and quality technology and is proud of this continuing and valued partnership. Recently, Windmöller & Hölscher produced a short video testimonial showcasing the W&H story through the lens of Polykar and the joint dedication to build partnerships for growth and innovation with like-minded companies.
