Flexo’s Future? Labelexpo’s Seeing in Color

September 30, 2019 – We’re reflecting on Labelexpo 2019 and when it comes to flexo, one message came through loud and clear. The future is about to get a whole lot brighter.

Labelexpo’s over for another year and what a show. So many interesting businesses, stories and connections. Right now, flexo feels like its firing on all cylinders. And whether it’s customers we work with, new people we’ve met or voices in the wider flexo community and beyond, there’s definitely an aspect of flexo that’s turning heads and dominating dialogue. Color.

For delegates at Labelexpo, ranging from printers, print shops, print buyers, quality and the transition from design to print were key concerns.

By the end of the show, 85% of the people we spoke to believed that quality is the highest priority for packaging brands when it comes to their print, and color accuracy plays a big part in that.

31% of people we spoke to actually said faithful translation from design to print, (which includes accurate color recreation) was one of the biggest concerns for customers they work with.

92% of delegates we interviewed said they had won brands or knew of brands that had moved from offset or gravure to flexo, and color was regularly pinpointed as a motivating factor:

“Flexo has an easier color target than offset”
“Flexo offers consistent color on brand jobs”
“It’s the proper use of color conversions that encourages brands to move to flexo from generic offset output”

For one delegate the case for flexo was simple. He put color right at its heart. “The consistent colors being shown in flexo printing are really unrivalled by other techniques at that cost. We’re convinced it is the future.”
